Want

A list of this that I neeeeed! Yes, I need them!

1// Okay, I tried these on the other day and they have been on my mind ever since. I swear I had a dream about them too. Mollini what are you doing to me?

2// I haven't treated myself to new jewellery in what feels like a lifetime! I'm more of a shoes kinda girl. But, this ring would go with my other House of Harlow ring! So I may just break that drought.

3// This Alice McCall cardi looks so  toasty and warm - love the colour too.

4// My sad story begins and finishes like this: My YSL red lipstick just finished. So i'm looking for a new one, but I think I might change brands. This Napoleon one seems to be somewhat the same colour (plus it's half the price)

5// Moroccan Oil Sham and Condition - I am so crazy about hair product. Just ask my boyfriend or bathroom cupboard. I use the oil everyday - so I am thinking that I might invest in some of this just to trial it.

It's too much to handle

Yesterday I caught up with one of my friends Amy and I decided to take some pics of her.  Though we didn't take many photos - all we did was chat. I guess that happens when you get two of the worlds most chatty people together in one room!

Amy is wearing: Ally Jeans, Flanno and tee from Target, Nixon Watch and my beanie from Forever New.

Since I started blogging I wanted to show people you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to look amazing - and Amy is such a great example of this. I was so amazed when she sent me a list of the brands she was wearing. I thought she'd picked this outfit up from General Pants!! So there you go, you don't have to go hungry or max out your credit card just to fund your wardrobe! Amz, you're a babe.

Happy Hump Day

Basic Space

The superb design and cut out panels on the front and back somehow manages to make this dress feel simultaneously retro and futuristic. The pastels and geometric print are so refreshing. I'm not normally a tight dress kinda gal, but I can see me edging more and more in that direction - especially in this semi sport luxe number.

Mesh

So, these AM Sunnies came in the mail last week and I have been dying to do a post on them. Another thing that came in the mail is all our new studio gear, lenses and other bits and pieces (sorry bank account). At least it's a very good investment for us, given we shoot Who Killed Bambi stock weekly etc.

Our stands were the last to come and they came today, so we played around this afternoon so I could get this damn blog post up! I did my lips like my pals at We Are Handsome did for MBFWA (Only I chose to do a gloss finish). See their products and their post {here}. I don't think there is one girl in Australia that wasn't inspired by their choice of make-up. If you weren't, my question to you is "who are you kidding". C'mon seriously.

I instantaneously fell for the AM Mesh glasses - their square frame wasn't like any other pair I own.  I really like the structured feel of the frame and the way they shape my face. The greatest feature has to be the anti-reflective lenses. AM, you got it so right.

See more of their glasses {here}, but I guarantee you'll fall for the Mesh too.

You, you used to have all the answers.

Don't let the blue sky fool you, It has been so bloody nippy the past few days. I think it's finally time to bid summer adieu (not that we really even experience one here in Queensland). I'm not complaining, I promise. In actual fact my favourite type of day is where there isn't a cloud in the sky, the sun is shining but it's not too hot...Sort of like the weather in these photos. I'm trying to do more personal style posts, because going through my archives I seemed to slip up a while there! This is such an easy, comfortable way to wear colour.

Have a good start to the week! Ally X

Working from home

Now that most of my work is conducted from my home office I have been thinking, "What should you wear when you work from home?"

Appearance matters when you report to work in the “outside” world - so I think it should when you work from home. Don't roll your eyes and say "It doesn't matter what I wear because I'm just working from home and should be allowed to wear PJ's all day". It does matter and here's a pretty basic concept why it does: If you act professional in all aspects of your business you're more likely to succeed. How you dress at home reflects your attitude towards what you do and who you are. I have found getting dressed promotes self-discipline in the way I work, thus I am more productive through out the day. (I am sure there are a lot of people out there who may have different views - I am just letting you know what works for me).

I wear pants a lot of the time as comfort is my primary concern. Here is what I've worn the past few days!

1// Vintage red geometric pattern pants

2// Neuw Jean c/o Neuw

3// Who Killed Bambi leopards coming soon

Sweetest downfall

I wonder how much longer I can get away with wearing sheer tops or dresses before the winter coldness creeps up and gives me frostbite.

Sheer is such a fun way to go sexy without showing skin. In saying that, I was nervous about the potential N that quite easily could have been S'ed.  I never really wear strapless bras cos they always seem to end up around my waist (even though I've been fitted properly). But don't panic, no wardrobe malfunctions were seen this day.

Happy Monday to you all, I hope you have a wicked week.

Consequence of sound

My hair has been short for a year now and it has finally grown to that in between length as i've stopped getting it cut back in to a bob - it's driving me crazy. It's the not so long, not so short do and it's driving me CRAZY (oh, I already mentioned that)! The Pro's of such length is I now have ponytail abilities, but I hate wearing my hair up ALL THE TIME. I thought I'd be happy with all the pit stops on the route from short to long hair, but this length is so blahhhhhhhhhhh. I think my problem is I don't know how to style this length, whereas the other lengths it's been before now I have. So I think I am going to buy some silica tablets and hope for the best. I think with a couple more inches I'll be happy ( "that's what she said" he he).

Have you had bad hair lengths? What did you do to make them more bearable? Fill me in by leaving me a comment!

STEP AWAY

"ACNE gives you a major style booster that lasts, it's a classic loafer modernized and taken to the next level".I'm sorry did something go wrong mid sentence there? Or was the person writing such a thing either a) blind b) high c) blind and high, because their statement couldn't be further from the truth.

If you had have asked me anytime before laying eyes on these if the gods at ACNE could do any wrong - my immediate answer would have been "absolutely, positively no". I mean after all you've seen the Pistol boot and I'm sure, like many before you, you had to wipe the long line of drool from your mouth afterwards and I'm sure you've seen their simple, yet achingly beautiful clothing as well. ACNE normally get it right every single time, but this time they got it oh so wrong

Don't get me wrong, I am all for different, innovative, look-at-me-i'm-pushing-the-boundaries-of-fashiondesigns, but there's that and then there's insanity. And I'm sorry but these fall directly under the latter category. I like loafer heels, take the Alexander Wang Anais Loafer pumpsfor example.  The consistent height and the seamless design make for a gorgeous shoe.

So how did ACNE get it so wrong? They took the loafer heel too far, tried too hard to be clever and made a shoe that was far too obvious. So instead of being left in awe from their craftsmanship, I'm left saying "we get it, you can make one type of shoe look like another. *slow clap* *bike horn*

Happy Tuesday, Ally, Have an awesome day! xoxox

Bonjour

My pal Kelly Smith, is such a talented artist (Birdy & Me), but I'm 100,000,000,000,000% sure you all knew this already. She worked on this illustration featured on this tee for the new girls line of Tokyo store Bonjour Records.

On her recent trip to Japan she was able to see all her illustrations in person and take some snaps of the store merchandise featuring her "Bonjour Girl". See all her photos here in her most recent blog post.

Enough already

I'm going to go a head here and appoint myself as spokeswoman for the anti-friendship bracelet movement. They have to be one of the most done to death trends in the past twelve months. Whoah, twelve months - who let that happen!?!

Sure they have been one of the most highlighted details at international fashion weeks, seen in numerous publications and most fashion bloggers stepped right on board that damn friendship bracelet train. But I personally think they were better left in my high school box filled with other memories mistakes, like my silver hoop earrings that I'm sure you could have fit your entire head through.

The so called "trend" was cute for all of about 2 minutes when everyone was like "oh, my lost childhood...oh I'm all nostalgic...something, something, please bring the 90's back". But now it's gone on for eleven months too long, if not more.

So, please step away from the useless coloured string/robe/yarn whatever they're made of and invest in something a little more timeless and something that doesn't get ruined at the sight of water.

Happy Monday, Ally

Outfit Post

I love a slouch tee. One that is so buttery soft, it almost feels like you're not wearing anything. I'm wearing Cheap Monday Jean, Who Killed Bambi tee (available here), Steve Madden Wedges and CCS.COM skateboard (oops, obviously not wearing it - but featuring it)

Hope you all had a killer weekend!

Sunset central

Jonathan took these photos this afternoon as the sunset was just too magical to miss. I opened them up in Photoshop to re-size them and I was taken aback by how awesome they were. There is no enhancements whatsoever. We love our new Canon 5D Mark II so much! Such a great investment, that's for sure

Influencers

I found this short documentary about "Influencers" very interesting. NB: It may require you to sit still for 13 minutes, but you will take something from it, I promise.

For those of you who don't take the time to watch things, I will quickly explain to you what you could have seen.  This documentary explores what it means to be an influencer. It then goes on to talk about how trends and creativity is becoming more widespread within today's society due to music, fashion and entertainment.

My thoughts on Popular Culture and it's influences on our society: Pop culture is so ingrained into our society that it's impossible not be influenced by it.  I think it's great that it is having such a massive impact on people identities. My life has changed immensely since 2008 (around the time I realised I loved fashion so much) because I have been able to access broad based mediums and because it's become easier for me to search for instant information. I have been able to absorb all this information and it has now helped me to formulate my own ideals, opinions, and essentially my outlook on life. So I believe without pop-culture my "influencers" would have been completely different.

So my questions to you are: What and who are you influenced by? What shapes you as a person? Has it been someone who has created something? A musician? An everyday person? A fashion designer?

See more on the Influencers site

Written and Directed by Paul Rojanathara and Davis Johnson, the film is a Polaroid snapshot of New York influential creatives (advertising, design, fashion and entertainment) who are shaping today's pop culture.

TRINITAS

Even though t-shirts seem to be becoming yesterdays news, with the bra or bikini top (whatever you want to call them) making their way in to street wear, I still think nothing beats a good ol' print tee.

Here are a bunch of tee's by German based label TRINITAS. All their products are very limited - which gives them a collectible feeling. Knowing that you're one of the few people who own something is a great feeling, don't you think? Once these tee's are sold out, then that's it! There's no chance of them being reprinted! (I think they have well and truly sold out now) But I thought I'd post as I really like the illustrations.

Happy Hump Day errybody!
